Mountains Youth Band Presentation Night Celebrations

Mountains Youth Band instrumentalists and their families and friends enjoyed a relaxed and entertaining evening on Tuesday 15 December at the band’s Annual Presentation Night and concert at Emu Sports Club, Leonay.

Guest speaker James Pensini praised the band for its achievements in 2009. He mentioned that a community-based youth concert band undertaking such a varied and extensive range of activities was not common, and he felt there was no other band like it in the state or in Australia. James advised MYB players to ‘arrive on time and play in time’ and encouraged them to continue to be involved as musicians in their community and to make every effort to play in as many ensembles as possible to develop their skills.

Awards for long service were presented for the first time this year. Instrumentalists who have been members of MYB for 5 or more years were recognised for their wonderful display of commitment to the band and the community. Chris Taggart was named 2009 Mountains Youth Band Instrumentalist of the Year. Other awards presented were commitment to band, band encouragement awards, special achievement awards, excellent attendance, and certificates of achievement.
