A wonderful night at the Annual Concert & Presentation of Awards

The Regatta Room at the Nepean Rowing Club proved to be an ideal venue to celebrate the talents and efforts of the members of the Mountains Youth Band at the 2006 Annual Concert and Presentation of Awards.

Of the nine songs played at the concert, six items were premiere performances. These included the evocative Lion King Medley, the classic Mr Sandman and a blast from the seventies with the Tijuana Tribute. An ‘impromptu’ duet from Andrew and Daniel revealed the performance skills of the band’s conductors.

Mr Kevin Christmas, Vice-president of the Band Association of NSW, presented the award of Instrumentalist of the Year to bass clarinetist, David Wallace. Kevin also presented awards to most improved instrumentalists, Stephen Arblaster, Ryan Fisher and Wesley Stormer.

Mr Peter Boyd, proprietor of the High Street Music Centre, presented encouragement awards to Matthew Cowcher, Owen Morris, Harriet Rochester and Danny Wallis. Commitment to Band Awards were presented to Micah Barnes, Sarah Barnes and Katrina Saludes. Special Achievement Awards were presented to Mitchell Barnes for his outstanding contribution as percussionist, Penny Chapman for her successful transfer to French Horn and Sarah Wickens for her piccolo solo at this year’s state competition and eisteddfods.

Fifteen of the band’s thirty-four registered members received medallions to acknowledge their exemplary attendance record at rehearsals throughout the year.
