BMCB to rock Civic Centre!
Posted: 10:17am August 10 2010

This term will see the first major concert performance of the entire Blue Mountains Concert Band for several years. The Music 43 concert on September 4 at Springwood Civic Centre will showcase the talent of a sensational 70-piece band made up of our Mountains Youth Band instrumentalists plus our adult concert band.

It’s sure to be a wonderful show and will feature a varied program including show tunes and ballads and the band accompanying a 20-piece vocal ensemble performing a medley of Richard Rodgers songs. The talented Blue Mountains Jazz Ensemble will also be a major feature of the concert and there will  be some other surprises in store! The planning for the show is well underway and now is the time to tell your family and friends to come along and support a worthy cause. The concert is being organised by the charitable organisation Music 43, and proceeds of the concert will support Freedom Across Australia which provides low cost tours for people with disability.

This term we welcome and congratulate Aidan Mayrhofer (pictured), who has joined Mountains Youth Band as the winner of the band’s instrumental scholarship in F Horn. The new double F horn was donated by Kurt Jacob and Co. with tuition support for the scholarship provided through fundraising from friends of Mountains Youth Band.

The F Horn scholarship is the band’s second scholarship and follows the 2008 tuba scholarship. We hope to expand the scholarship program in the future, with one of the goals being to encourage instrumentalists to play the ’endangered’ or rarer instruments such as bassoon and oboe, and for our entire concert band to benefit from having these instruments as part of the ensemble.
