Where the ANZAC legend and community spirit join forces - 21 April 2026
Tuesday 21st April 2026 at the CaLM Uniting Church, Springwood
The ANZAC legend was honoured in a thought-provoking, moving service where community representatives from Springwood Uniting Aged Care, CaLM Uniting Church, Uniting Kids Care and Blue Mountains Concert Band with Mountains Youth Band joined together to lead local dignitaries and aged care elders in their annual ANZAC commemoration service.
From age 4 to 100, an inter-generational service organised and led by Chaplain Jes Star joined together those present as one in a deeply personal, moving service to honour and remember those who have served, those who have returned, the fallen, and those that continue to serve in our Australian armed forces.
Addresses by Susan Templeman, Federal Member for Macquarie, Trish Doyle, MP for Blue Mountains and Darren Rodrigo, Ward 3 Councillor Blue Mountains City Council were heartfelt and poignant. Poems read by representatives of the communities with five Uniting Kids Care children brought to life and to heart the human tragedy of world wars, even more meaningful in the current turbulent world we live in.
Wreaths and hand-made poppies were laid in remembrance while the concert band quietly played Lead, Kindly Light, which was a truly moving and respectful part of the service. Aged care elders and the children were assisted by staff in laying hand-made wreaths in a touching tribute with young and old respectful in their silence. Beautiful hymns and the Australian National Anthem were richly and warmly played by the concert band with attendees in full voice. Bugler Keith McCarron played The Last Post and Rouse with the Australian flag raised during the commemoration.
Lest We Forget.
