Concert wrap-up - 21 March 2026
Saturday 21st March 2026 at the Lower Mountains Anglican Parish, Glenbrook
Our first performance for 2026, Mayhem at the Movies, was a real crowd pleaser! It featured over 20 movie themes ranging from the 1939 film Over the Rainbow to more modern films, such as Star Wars, The Great Escape, Moon River, James Bond, music from The Godfather, The Mission, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and many more.
The concert welcomed Rob Mattessi as our new conductor and music director, and opened with a set of four items from Mountains Youth Band who really stole the show. Some of our youth players had only been in the band for a few weeks and the performance from this band was polished and tight. The final number in their set, Soul Bossa Nova, was amazing.
The second set from our adult band, Blue Mountains Concert Band, was also warmly welcomed by our appreciative afternoon audience of about 140 patrons. The performance was full of old favourites and there was something for everyone.
We served afternoon tea after the concert, and patrons had a chance to view the old movie posters loaned for the occasion by Ben Curran from Glenbrook Cinema. We are very grateful to Ben for the loan of these posters, which took a few people on an enjoyable trip down Memory Lane. As well as Ben, we acknowledge Blue Mountains Musical Society for the loan of their red carpet, and Blue Mountains Photography Group for the loan of the stands to display Ben’s posters.
Finally, many thanks to the Lower Mountains Anglican Parish, Glenbrook, and their staff for allowing us to perform at this wonderful venue and for their assistance before and during the concert.
